In 2021, the Foundation for Media Alternatives (FMA) drew up fundamental principles that describe the kind of Internet Filipino women want: inclusive and responsive; affordable; safe; free from discrimination; empowering; transparency and accountability; and human rights-based. FMA finds that these principles also back up the wide-ranging demands of gender-based discriminated groups who form a huge and vital electorate and Philippine constituency.
In pressing for gender and ICT concerns as part and parcel of women’s causes, FMA spoke with various women to surface how ICT and the Internet impacts women’s freedoms. FMA also asked about their aspirations and changes they want to see offline and online come the next Philippine president.
“Sana ang susunod nating maging leaders ay talagang isa sa mga pangunahing agenda nila ito sa kanilang leadership,” sabi ni Hannah Aldeza, isang accessibility at LGBTQ+ rights advocate.
Nagbahagi siya tungkol sa assistive technology, presyo ng internet, at inclusive practices online.
Pinalitaw rin ni Icy Salem ang tungkol sa pagpatay sa mga mamamahayag, Distributed denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks sa news websites, maraming turned down na requests for information, at redtagging.

Binahagi rin ni Jelen Paclarin, Executive Director of the Women’s Legal and Human Rights Bureau (WLB), na ang online GBV ay sumasalamin sa malalim at kultural na problema ng ating bayan na mababa ang pagtingin sa kababaihan.
Dagdag niya, “Sana magkaron tayo ng mas mahusay na sistema ng pagrereport lalo na sa usapin ng pambabastos, ng online abuse, through the Safe Spaces Act.”
Sa Q&A session, sinagot rin ni Garcia ang isang tanong tungkol sa karapatan ng gig workers. Kailangan itong i-recognize lalo na’t kalakip nito ang usapin ng women’s labor at ang sitwasyon ng mga kababaihang manggagawa.
