Access Now launches new report on internet shutdowns

Amid deteriorating democracies, internet shutdowns have become a new method to silence dissent and exercise control. Access Now‘s new report unpacks the alarming rate at which governments across the world order internet shutdown. This is a drastic measure with far-reaching consequences.

For one, access to crucial information during conflict and disaster is restricted. It further complicates human rights abuses too as such cases will likely remain undisclosed and undocumented.

“Internet shutdowns, of any form, always violate fundamental human rights and cause incalculable and persistent damage to people’s lives,” read the report.
